Habichuela / Carmona

Pepe Habichuela · Ketama

Calé / Gitano — Granada

Style: Flamenco

Granada Gitano dynasty. Habichuela el Viejo to Juan and Pepe, then Josemi and Ketama.

The nickname comes from the grandfather, Habichuela el Viejo, who accompanied his daughter Marina in Granada taverns. Father José Carmona taught the sons: Juan Habichuela (1933–2016), Carlos, Luis, and José Antonio Carmona — Pepe Habichuela (Granada 23 October 1944 – Madrid 4 August 2026).

Pepe moved to Madrid tablaos in 1964 and shared bills with Camarón and Enrique Morente. With Morente he recorded a homage to Antonio Chacón. Son Josemi Carmona (b. 1971) formed Ketama with cousins Juan El Camborio and Antonio Carmona — the family into nuevo flamenco.

This is a family of toque. Restaurant violin and pompe are other traditions.
