Kočani Orkestar

Macedonian Roma — Kočani

Style: Balkan Romani brass & wedding

Romani brass from Kočani. Naat Veliov, trumpet. Public name in the 1990s. Macedonian cousin of Guča and Zece Prăjini.

The Kočani Orkestar began as town wedding brass (1930s in family memory) and became a European festival name in the 1990s.

Macedonian notices name Naat (Neat) Veliov as trumpet and leader: born Kočani, 25 May 1957, grandfather Ahmet on trumpet. English Wikipedia: he led until 2000; later line-ups kept the name. Two public names (King Naat Veliov Original Kočani Orkestar and Kočani Orkestar on Crammed) are not two families.
